Given the binary nature of SNPs and the presence of two possible variants in each individual (“diploid” nature of the human chromosome inheritance), each person carries for every SNP a combination of two possible variants (which we will call A and B), resulting in three possible combinations: AA, BB, AB. In each case, one of the two alleles (B in our example) is associated with a higher genetic risk of developing a specific disease, because it has a negative effect on the activity of the gene in which it is located, with respect to a crucial disease-related function. Therefore, for each SNP the risk gradient will be as follows: AA = minimum risk, AB = medium risk, BB = maximum risk. The combination of SNPs associated with the same disease provides an overall risk evaluation and suggests the specific nutritional and lifestyle measures that should be adopted.
Genalta also provides, together with the results, personalized charts illustrating individual disease risk susceptibilities. The charts give a measure of a person’s risk with respect to each disease, and of how this risk level compares to the average population on the basis of each gene analyzed.
“All under control!”
If the results of the SNP PANEL genetic tests identify a predisposition to one or more diseases, the patient can then take the appropriate chemistry blood tests suggested by Genalta or by his/her physician, in order to evaluate the current situation and arrange regular checkups. You can also prevent the disease simply by modifying your lifestyle or diet, and/or by taking specifics dietary supplements and innovative antioxidants recommended case by case.
It should be noted, however, that results indicating a predisposition to one or more diseases do not necessarily imply that the disease(s) will develop later in life: although this depends to a large extent on a person’s genetic inheritance, the remaining part depends on other factors including environment, diet, lifestyle, etc.
For prevention methods to be effective, targeted and ethically acceptable, patients should be provided with knowledge, information and advice.
Genalta has developed Consulting Processes where medical genetics experts, psychologists, and nutritionists offer their professionalism and competence to outline the recommended personalized treatments, and more importantly to explain and describe tests results and their implications.
